Looking ahead to this years DockerCon and a little chat about a talk given about the JVM within containers.

At last year’s Devoxx Belgium conference Christopher Batey gave a talk ‘The JVM and Docker. A good idea?’ about what assumption of the JVM are not screwed when running within a container.

  • Background** JVM was created to abstract hardware and deploy mostly independent of the underlying system. This transformed into running distinct VM/hosts for each JVM.
  • JVM Ergonomics Since the JVM does a good job of self-configuring itself, one does not need to tune the performance in most cases. It will just work.
  • Introduce CGroups But with cgroups these assumptions are gone…

Next week is DockerConEU in Copenhagen.
